I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
The way. The truth. The life.
Thomas Kempis wrote, Without a way, there is no going. Without the truth, there is no knowing. Without a life, there is no living. Without Jesus, our journey has no clear direction. Without Jesus, we have no filter with which we can understand the world and the peoples in it. Without Jesus, the very marrow of our bones is sucked dry by the Ugly that permeates this current day.
Except through me.
Jesus must remain on the throne. If I ask him to perhaps step aside for a moment or to wiggle a bit to the left, instantly Something Else creeps up and drapes itself luxuriously over the center stage. Instantly I get confused about what I am supposed to be doing and I question the merit of my current life path. My way is muddled. Instantly I get confused by the chorus of a thousand voices telling me which direction is up. My understanding of what is true becomes hazy. Instantly I get overwhelmed and feel like there is probably no use to continuing. The burden of life seems too great.
But the thing is- when I allow Jesus to be Jesus, when I keep Him up in the center of all things, there is purpose, there is hope, there is clarity. I begin to understand that the Kingdom of Heaven is actually here because the King is here, here with me. Here loving me. Here guiding me. Here helping me to understand. More, I am with Him. Listening to Him. Learning from Him. Worshipping Him.
